Plentiful gravity lifts add more verticality to Jericho City and its surrounding regions, which solves the aforementioned linearity issue I brought up earlier. It’s so much less lonely than the original game, it’s like night an day. Scrappy, who begs you for audio logs in exchange for rewards, is a personal favorite of mine. Another NPC (a PC actually of a sort), Mr. During my demo I encountered a particularly hilarious NPC interaction where I told him that I was “bad to the bone” after he asked for my alignment, and he peaced out immediately on a zipwire. Between the cult-like religions that sprang up due to a robot uprising and the seeminglyĬorrupt government that built a wall around itself, I’m at least partially invested in this world. Now in an action-RPG that might not matter to a lot of people (and really, I do want to spend most of my time killing), but for an IP like The Surge, it’s an opportunity to really dig into this world and give players a reason to be there. Yes, instead of meandering through a factory you’re now given the opportunity to interact with scores of NPCs, most of which have optional dialogue trees. The new gimmick is its setting, Jericho City, which is filled with shades of neon lights and best of all…life! There’s more personality in the first few minutes of The Surge 2 than the entirety of what I played of the first game (about half). It makes sense why I had a moment of pause when I was given the opportunity to check out a preview build of the first few hours of The Surge 2, but I’m glad I indulged. But I think the linearity and simplicity of its level design got to me most of all, leading to a potentially eternally shelved entry into my backlog. Dynamic Redirector – Grants 30 Energy when struck. There wasn’t one particular reason why I put down Deck13’s The Surge after a few sessions close to its 2017 launch: there were too many to count.Īs their sci-fi follow-up to Lords of the Fallen and their second foray into the “Souls” action-RPG formula I wasn’t impressed, mostly with the drab environments and lifeless enemies.Battery Adrenalizer – Increases Stamina Recovery when the Battery is filled. Deflection Energy Converter – Grants 25 Energy following a deflect.Deflection Damage Enhancer – Boosts damage after a deflection by 10%.Deflection Supercharger – Boosts damage by 30% and grants 25 Energy after a successful deflect. Deflection Hardener – Increased Defense and Elemental Defense for a short time. You need the following implants in order to make the effective use of this build in The Surge 2. However, slower weapons take a bit longer for directional block and use more stamina compared to the fast ones. You are free to experiment with any weapon you like just make sure you know the timing for directional blocking of each weapon as every weapon type has a different in directional block timing.įaster weapons are quick when it comes to directional blocking and they don’t even use much of your stamina. There is no restriction on what kind of weapon you can use with this build in The Surge 2. However, the Liquidator Set is your most likely choice as the rest of the armor sets won’t become available until late game. You can also try the SCARAB Set as it has defensive bonuses which can be useful in a boss fight. Another recommendation for this build is The Nano Ward Set which reduces the cost of blocking.
